BSRT Post Copenhagen Luncheon
The BSRT Post-Copenhagen Lunch was held on Wednesday 24 February
After months of preliminary work and 2 weeks negotiations, world leaders produced a three-page non-binding political declaration in the ‘Copenhagen Accord’ that does not provide a successor to the Kyoto Protocol and failed to clarify the means by which we are to achieve the nebulous aim that global emissions must be reduced ‘to hold the increase in global temperature below 2°C’.
While I am satisfied that we sealed a deal, I am aware that the outcome of the Copenhagen conference, including the Copenhagen Accord, did not go as far as many would have hoped. Nonetheless they represent a beginning – an essential beginning. We have taken an important step in the right direction.

These questions and others specific to your business interests will be answered at the BSRT luncheon by a specially selected panel of experts who attended the COP15.
- The Lord Mayor, Robert Doyle, will speak of the parallel Lord Mayor’s conference on sustainability and the ideas he has brought back the City of Melbourne that will drive local commerce.
- Dr Brett Parris lends his perspective as former Chief Economist for World Vision Australia, the capacity in which he attended COP15, as well as his current research at Monash University in the Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics.
- Dominique La Fontaine develops commercial climate change strategies for business, and it is from this view that she will be reporting her ideas from Copenhagen.
- Amy Kean offers succinct and useful take outs for business from her view as general manager of Pinpoint Earth, an innovative company providing sustainable loyalty and incentive programs.
- Giulia Baggio, former ABC journalist and now media advisor, climate change at the ACTU will tease out ideas making sure that the hard questions are asked from the perspective of local business.
